Couch potato

Friday, July 30, 2010
Cash has started to stare intently at the television when we have it on. The other night Ross propped him up on the Boppy pillow and put on Vin Diesel in "Triple X" and Cash was enthralled.

Now we sit him facing out when we are hanging out with him. It seems to keep him quiet for awhile.

All better

Earlier this week I had kind of a rough day. Maybe it was due to it being the halfway point of my maternity leave and I'm starting to feel a bit stir crazy in 400 square feet since we can't go outside because of the heat. Or possibly it was because I've been going through my old Domino magazines out of sheer boredom and admiring all of the nice furniture which makes me all to aware of my cheap, old, and thoroughly uncomfortable furniture that is all that we can fit into our space. Or possibly it's the lack of sleep finally catching up to me. Whatever it was, I was cranky.

Then Cash decided to make it all better...

Bath time!

Sunday, July 25, 2010

Ross and I have started giving Cash baths on Wednesday and Sunday nights. He seems to enjoy it or at least he stays quiet during it so thats enough for us. We originally tried putting the baby bathtub in the actual bathtub but our bathroom is so tiny and gets so hot that we quickly opted for the kitchen sink and it works well. After baths we try to read to him from his vast library collection however we usually can only get through one book before he has had enough.

Lazy Sunday

Today Ross needed to go run some errands and do laundry and Cash and I decided to be lazy. We switched it up and sat in the bedroom as opposed to the couch in the living room (hey - I got to find some way to have variety living in 400 square feet) and laid around in our pajamas all day. Cash slept on my chest for most of it and I watched bad tv and ate animal crackers. Tomorrow we'll go back to our semi-productive schedule of sitting on the couch, catching up on Sunday night DVR tapings, and eating Larabars. Cash will sleep through most of it so really he won't be doing anything different.

Busy week for Cash

Sunday, July 18, 2010

This week, Cash had a lot of firsts. Last Sunday, it was his first big outing for the afternoon when we took him to our friends the Boyce's apartment in Brooklyn to watch the World Cup final. It involved two cab rides and about 3 hours away from home. Cash was great during the time away, not so great once we got home. We think it was a bit too much excitement for him and he expressed his displeasure afterwards by crying for three solid hours. However this did not turn into the beginnings of colic which I began to panic about around hour 2.

During the week, I stepped up the tummy time routine and got Cash to do three solid minutes everyday for the first time. He still likes lying on his back much better.

On Thursday, Cash met his cousin Sam for the first time. It took Sam awhile to make it to our apartment because he was very busy with impromptu kickball games but Cash and him took to each other right away and Sam even offered to babysit once he figures out how to change a diaper. Ross and I aren't planning our big night out just yet.

Finally, this past weekend was Ross and Cash's first weekend on their own. I wasn't really away from the City but it felt like it since I was hosting some bachelorette and bridal shower festivities for my best friend Candace. I spent most of the weekend going back and forth between partying and the apartment. Ross and Cash got some good long stretches of quality time in which required more than one bottle feeding by Ross. Unfortunately, Cash was not at all happy with this situation and proceeded to cry and scream about it to his Dad for a couple of hours at a time. These next few weeks we have to work on the bottle situation since we will be leaving Cash with his grandparents for a couple of days when Ross and I go to the actual wedding in Colorado.

1 Month Well Baby Visit

Monday, July 12, 2010
Cash is officially one month old today and with that came a visit to the doctor. Not exactly the way I would want to celebrate but nonetheless, it had to be done. He was weighed, measured, and put into percentiles so here are the facts:
Weight: 8lbs, 15oz; 50th percentile
Height: 21 inches; 50th percentile
Head circumference: 37cm; 50th percentile

So our little guy gained close to 3lbs in a month and went from the 5th percentile of weight to the 50th! This was probably the most exciting news of the day. Ross was a little upset that he didn't hit 9lbs even however considering the mass amount of spit up that occurred right when we got into the office, I'm pretty sure he left an ounce on the table. Everything else looks good on him and his umbilical granuloma even appears to finally be on its last legs after Dr. Rosello cauterized it for a third time today so we will finally be able to give Cash a proper bath. It's really about time too. We go back at 6 weeks to get him his first round of shots a little early since we will be taking him on a plane at 7 weeks. I'm not looking forward to that visit...

Old Man Cash

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Cash lost all of the hair on the top of his head two days ago. It actually did happen in one day. Ross and I kept noticing hair in our mouth when we would kiss the top of his head. It will be interesting to see how it comes back and whether or not the rest of it will fall out soon. Until then, Ross has given Cash the new nickname of Friar Tuck.

You'd be upset too if you lost 30% of your hair in one day...
